Services

Here's a little break-down of the services I offer. Hopefully this helps you decide what's best for your needs and how to schedule your appointments...

NEW!!  Remote Video Lessons can be great for any age! It can take some getting used to, but video voice lessons can be a great way to keep up with your singing goals during busy (or social distancing) times.  We can work on technique as I listen and offer assistance and constructive critiques.

Weekly Voice Lessons

Choose either a half hour, 45 minutes, or an hour based on the student's age, experience, attention span, or how quickly they hope to make progress. Weekly lessons are tailored to the capabilities, needs, goals, and expectations of each individual student. Students may choose to work on one particular song or style that interests them. One could also prepare an audition piece for a musical, showcase, district or state competition, and even college or university. If there is no such pending event, focus will be on improving vocal technique, including confidence development, refining diction, establishing better habits in breathing and posture, sight reading sheet music, or any other number of skills essential to becoming an outstanding performer.

Voice Coaching

Get professional feedback, tips, and help before a performance or audition. This is essentially very similar to a weekly voice lesson, except it is for non-weekly students and the student should already be prepared and mostly performance ready. Coaching sessions are only for tweaking and refining. Typically, an appointment is scheduled far enough in advance that a followup appointment can be scheduled before the performance or audition if needed. Regardless of age, coaching sessions are only offered in one-hour appointments.

Voice Lessons By Age
Ages 6-9

At this age, children are interested in music and hopefully think it's fun!  I'd like to keep it that way.  I typically recommend weekly half hour lessons for this age group.  If they find they have more of a desire to pursue singing than the average child, 45 minutes or an hour lesson may be okay.  Starting out with voice lessons can be intimidating for kids, so I usually let them pick a song or two they like to sing already. Then, based on their personality, musical taste, abilities, and what they hope to get out of voice lessons, I will choose another song or two to work with.  It is my goal to keep them interested, improve upon their natural talent, and help them develop the confidence they will need to perform in front of an audience.

Ages 9-12

By this age, a child typically knows whether singing and performing are things they are interested in. Therefore, I recommend 45 minutes or an hour long weekly lesson.  However, if 30 minutes is all they can commit to, quite a bit can still be accomplished. If a student of this age group is continuing on in their music lessons, we will progress onto more difficult skills and techniques. As a teacher, I feel it is beneficial to choose songs that require a level of skill just slightly beyond what they've already accomplished. It may be a bit of hard work, but not out of reach completely. This not only improves upon skills they've already acheived, but gives them a great sense of accomplishment once they are successful.

Ages 12 - Teens

Once a student has reached this age, they have usually already decided that singing is something they would like to pursue further. They may be involved with school or local theatre productions, music or theatre competitions, auditions for college etc. I will help them choose songs that highlight their strengths, while we work on improving their weaknesses. Certainly, I recommend that students of this age group take lessons at least once a week, totalling one hour per week or more. We will continue work on vocal quality, stage presence, facial expression and emoting, vowel placement, diction, sight reading sheet music, and many other techniques.

Adults

These lessons are custom to the student, as with all ages. I have coached college students for auditions to transfer schools. I've coached adults who just want to find something enjoyable to do with their extra time. I've also coached fellow Sweet Adelines with vocal techniques or with learning their music. I only recommend that you do what makes you happy.  If you have a performance or goal in mind, I'd love to help you excel. Perhaps hour long lessons would be best suited for those situations.  If you're simply doing it for enjoyment, perhaps a half hour lesson would suffice. Specific vocal techniques taught will vary depending on the experience and intention of the student.

South Florida Jubilee Lessons

These lessons are specificially designed for members of the South Florida Jubilee Chorus and focus solely on the Barbershop style of singing.  The purpose of these lessons is to improve upon and practice the skills learned in SFJ chorus rehearsals including, but not limited to; diction and enunciation, maintaining a forward sound, staying in the "cone", sounding Big Bright and Beautiful, working on breathing techniques, movement while singing, improving your sheet music reading skills, etc. These lessons are most typically scheduled before Regional Contest and our Annual Winter Show, however, they are available all throughout the year!
